brief biography born to english parents in a hippie community in mullumbimby, new south wales. she and her two siblings were not allowed to watch television and rarely permitted to go to the cinema, thus creating a fascination for filmmaking in all three siblings.

involved heavily in dramatic arts in high school, but showed athletic prowess; was offered a full scholarship to UCLA to play volleyball. while in california she was scouted by a modeling agency, and dropped out to pursue a career modeling a semester in.

while modeling she found little success in the fashion industry, though a foray into the acting world proved far more lucrative for her agency. impressed by what seemed to be natural talent (actually a passion for aleksandra), they sent her on several auditions for bit parts in television.

aleksandra’s height (6’1”) proved to be a hinderance on camera; she was rebuffed for many roles on the basis that she would overshadow her male cohorts. eventually, she did reach mainstream success from her role in hbo’s master’s of sex, going on to perform in roles of increasing visibility.
